Bobo-Dioulasso: A week of activities is set to commence in Bobo-Dioulasso to mark World Malaria Day, with events scheduled from April 22 to 25, 2025, focusing on the theme ‘reinvest, reimagine and revive our common efforts to end malaria’.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the week will start on April 22 with a press conference at the Hauts-Bassins governorate at 10:00 a.m. This media briefing will outline the objectives and key highlights of the scheduled activities.
On April 23, activities will begin at 8:00 a.m. with a sanitation operation at the regional health department in the Trypano district. In the afternoon, an awareness panel will convene at Ou©zzin Coulibaly High School at 3:00 p.m., bringing together students, teachers, and health professionals to discuss malaria and prevention strategies.
April 24 will feature solidarity and dialogue activities, starting with a blood donation drive at 8:00 a.m. at Ou©zzin Coulibaly High School. This will be followed by a political dialogue on health at 9:00 a.m. at the Mgr Anselme Titiama SANOU Cultural Center. The day will conclude with a cross-country race against malaria starting at 4:00 p.m. along a designated route.
The commemoration will culminate on April 25, World Malaria Day, beginning with a color rampage and educational classes at Diaradougou School at 7:30 a.m. An official ceremony will follow at 9:00 a.m. at the Farakan Urban Medical Center, attended by health and administrative officials. The day will conclude with an operation to treat larval breeding sites in the Colma district at 4:00 p.m.
Malaria remains a significant health challenge in Burkina Faso, being the leading cause of consultation, hospitalization, morbidity, and mortality in the country.
