BOBO-DIOULASSO — On Friday, the Hauts-Bassins regional judicial police incinerated several tons of illegal drugs, cigarettes, and other banned products in Bobo-Dioulasso, valued collectively at over 100 million FCFA.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the destroyed products included 439 cartons of cigarettes, 1,132 tonnes of drugs, and 20,345 tonnes of other prohibited items. The cigarettes alone, improperly labeled and thus non-compliant with Burkina Faso’s tobacco regulations, were worth nearly 44 million FCFA. The narcotics destroyed included large quantities of cannabis and tramadol, known for their harmful effects. Another significant batch consisted of unregulated beauty and medical products, which posed health risks. The police commissioner, Yacouba Farta, emphasized the importance of community vigilance and reporting suspicious activities to authorities to prevent health hazards from unregulated products.
