CAIRO — A tragic boat collision in Lagos, Nigeria resulted in 11 injured individuals being rescued and 21 others reported missing. The incident involved two wooden boats that capsized late Monday night in the city's lagoon.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Benjamin Hundeyin, the police spokesman in Lagos, detailed that the accident occurred at Imore, a town within the Amuwo-Odofin local government area. Each of the ferries was carrying 16 passengers and crew at the time of the collision. "The victims were mostly traders," Hundeyin noted, highlighting the local context of the accident.
Emergency response teams, including conventional and marine police units along with local divers, were quickly deployed to the scene. Eleven passengers, who sustained injuries, were rescued and transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, search efforts for the missing victims are ongoing, and authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
