Zambo: The Regional Blood Transfusion Center (CRTS) of Gaoua, in collaboration with the parish of Ligu¨taw, organized a blood collection drive on Sunday, June 14, to bolster the blood reserves of health facilities and provide support to the Defense and Security Forces (FDS).
According to Burkina Information Agency, the initiative aimed at alleviating the blood shortage successfully mobilized numerous Catholic worshippers and local residents who participated in the voluntary blood donation. The drive concluded with the collection of approximately twenty units of blood.
Dr. San Gaston Coulibaly, director of the CRTS of Gaoua, emphasized that this campaign is part of ongoing efforts to maintain a steady supply of blood products for health facilities. He highlighted the importance of voluntary donations, stating, 'Blood cannot be manufactured. Only voluntary donation saves lives. We therefore invite the population to make this civic gesture a habit.'
Father Mathieu Somda, representing the parish priest of Ligu¨taw, praised the initiative as a reflection of the Catholic Church's commitment to national solidarity. He emphasized that, given the current security situation, it is crucial for every citizen to contribute to the preservation of human lives and the support of the Nation.
Voluntary donor Ibelanne Dabir© shared his motivation, stating, 'I gave my blood to support our FDS and VDP engaged in the field. It is my way of contributing to the defense of our country while participating in saving human lives.'
The organizers expressed satisfaction with the turnout and encouraged the public to participate in future campaigns to meet the increasing demand for blood products in health facilities.
