Burkina faso: “CURRENTLY, THE WEAKNESS OF BLACK PEOPLE LIES IN THEIR LACK OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY,” SAYS APOLLINAIRE KYELEM OF TAMBELA. The president of the Institute of Black Peoples-Farafina (IPN), Mr. Apollinaire Kyelem de Tambela, stated on Wednesday at the Thomas Sankara University of Ouagadougou that the deficit in science and technology constitutes today the main weakness of black men, calling on African youth to awaken their conscience in favor of scientific knowledge and innovation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Mr. Kyelem de Tambela spoke on Wednesday at Thomas Sankara University before an audience of students, teachers, and researchers, who came to learn about the missions and objectives of the IPN, on the occasion of the Days of Patriotic Commitment and Citizen Participation (JEPPC). He revisited the contemporary challenges related to the mastery of scientific and technological knowledge, which he considers to be essential levers of power and sovereignty in today’s world.

He emphasized that the global context is currently dominated by scientific and technological advances, which determine the balance of power between nations. “Whoever controls science and technology dominates the world. However, in this area, the Black world is weakened,” he lamented. Faced with this situation, the president of the IPN invited young people to break with what he calls “useless distractions,” including excessive folklore and certain forms of unproductive entertainment, in order to resolutely engage in the pursuit of scientific knowledge.

“We need to sound the alarm so that people realize that we need to move towards science, towards technology and avoid unnecessary digressions,” he insisted. In his opinion, respect and consideration on the international stage now depend on the ability to innovate and produce knowledge. For the former Prime Minister, the reconquest of dignity and respect for black men necessarily involves their ability to demonstrate their competence in these strategic areas.

“If we want black men to be respected, they must show that they can master science and technology. Only then can we conquer the world and earn respect,” he argued. Beyond science and technology, the speaker also emphasized the need for Black people to reclaim their history, which he believes has been distorted or marginalized in dominant narratives. “Black people are at the foundation of human history,” he asserted, calling for a rehabilitation of African contributions to the evolution of the world.

According to him, this historical marginalization has contributed to a loss of awareness and self-confidence among Black populations. “Black people have lost awareness and confidence in themselves. Today, it is a matter of restoring that confidence to them, of showing them that they are actors in history and that they must contribute to the advancement of humanity,” he explained. In this context, the IPN intends to play a role in raising awareness and mobilizing support, particularly among young people. Mr. Kyelem de Tambela announced the establishment of institute clubs in educational institutions, with the aim of instilling from a young age the values of historical awareness, responsibility, and scientific commitment.

“There is nothing like educating young people, the spearhead of tomorrow. We have invited students and teachers to support the creation of Black Peoples Institute clubs in each training establishment,” he said. According to him, the objective is to train a generation aware of the challenges of the present and resolutely focused on the future, capable of driving endogenous development and contributing to the emergence of the African continent.
