Ouagadougou: The Sunni movement of Bittou, in collaboration with the blood collection service of the Tenkodogo Regional Blood Transfusion Center (CRTS), organized a blood donation drive on Saturday, June 6, 2026, which collected 42 units of blood out of a target of 80 units. The operation took place within the grounds of the Sunni movement mosque in Bittou in the presence of agents from the regional blood transfusion center of Tenkodogo, leaders of the movement and many volunteer donors who came to contribute to this act of solidarity.

According to Burkina Information Agency, this initiative aims to strengthen blood reserves in health centers in order to meet the needs of patients, particularly during this period marked by a resurgence of cases of malaria and other pathologies requiring blood transfusions. The head of the collection service at the CRTS in Tenkodogo, Moustapha Kafando, praised the mobilization of the participants while emphasizing the importance of voluntary blood donation.

'The need for blood is crucial in health centers. We are at the beginning of the school and university holidays, a period during which establishments that usually constitute important donor sites are closed. That is why we invite all populations to support us in order to allow health facilities to have enough blood to treat patients,' he said. Comrade Kafando also urged the various communities, associations and organizations in the province to increase blood collection initiatives for the benefit of people in need.

For his part, the treasurer of the Sunni movement of Bittou, Amidou Marane, was delighted with the success of the activity and the commitment of the faithful. 'We felt that donating blood to a sick person was a way to help save a life. It was with this in mind that we contacted the relevant services to organize this operation at the appropriate time. We know that the needs are significant in hospitals at this time,' he explained. The organizers have launched an appeal to the public to make blood donation a regular civic act in order to help save more lives.
