Bissa Gold Enhances Local Poultry Farming in Sabcé with Training and Equipment

Sabcé - Bissa Gold SA, a mining company, has initiated a program to boost local poultry production in Sabcé by providing training and essential equipment to a cooperative of 50 poultry farmers, including 10 women, who are affected by the company’s operations. The handover ceremony took place at the town hall on August 15, 2024, under the supervision of François Xavier Sawadogo, the first vice-president of the special Sabcé delegation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the manager of the training firm, the training covered critical aspects of poultry farming such as poultry management, chick management, egg management, incubation, and prophylaxis over four days. He expressed satisfaction with the participants' grasp of the material by the end of the program. Equipment provided included drinkers, feeders, and poultry feed, aimed at enhancing the cooperative’s capabilities in poultry production.

Soumaïla Sawadogo, representing the cooperative members, articulated the group's appreciation for the support from Bissa Gold and the Sabcé commune, emphasizing the potential impact of the training and equipment on local poultry production. Rasmané Ouédraogo, a representative from Bissa Gold, highlighted the importance of the training for the economic empowerment of the region's youth, noting the limited employment opportunities at the mine and the need for alternative livelihoods such as poultry farming, deemed a sustainable and promising profession by local technicians.

The initiative is part of Bissa Gold's broader commitment to supporting communities impacted by its activities across at least five municipalities in the Center-North region, providing similar support annually to foster economic development and professional integration among the youth.
