Bishop Inaugurates New Parish in Baguera to Serve Local Communities

Leraba: The Bishop of Banfora, Mgr. Lucas Kalfa Sanou, inaugurated the parish of Baguera, a district within the rural commune of Loumana, located 33 km from Sindou, on Sunday, April 19, 2026. The High Commissioner of the Leraba province, Yacouba Sawadogo, was also present at the ceremony.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the parish of Our Lady of the Rice Fields, the second parish in the Leraba province, was inaugurated in Baguera in the presence of the High Commissioner and traditional and religious authorities. Bishop Sanou emphasized that the establishment of the church in Baguera as a parish aims to bring priests closer to the people.

The parish of Our Lady of the Rice Fields in Baguera is a subdivision of the Konadougou-Sindou parish, which encompasses 35 villages and farming hamlets. The name of the parish reflects the area's economic reliance on rice cultivation in the lowlands, as stated by Bishop Sanou.

During the ceremony, Bishop Sanou expressed gratitude to the Muslim and Protestant communities, as well as the residents of Baguera, for their attendance and support. He encouraged continued support for the new parish through prayers and various forms of assistance. The event concluded with various authorities offering congratulations and blessings for the parish's future.
