Bilateral Cooperation: The New UNICEF Representative Meets With Prime Minister


Ouagadougou: Prime Minister Rimtalba Jean Emmanuel Ou©draogo met with Dr. Chantal Umutoni, the newly appointed Representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Burkina Faso. Dr. Umutoni, who recently assumed her position, visited the Prime Minister to extend her regards and discuss priority areas for strengthening cooperation between Burkina Faso and UNICEF.



According to Burkina Information Agency, Burkina Faso and UNICEF have a history of strong cooperative relations, which Dr. Umutoni is committed to maintaining. She emphasized the Burkinabe government’s focus on children’s interests and well-being as central to governmental actions, expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister and affirming UNICEF’s commitment to continue its collaborative work with the government in alignment with its defined priorities.



The Prime Minister congratulated Dr. Umutoni on her new role and assured her of his support for UNICEF’s initiatives, emphasizing the government’s dedication to child welfare as a cornerstone for a secure future. He also raised concerns regarding the recruitment of children by terrorists and noted the silence of certain organizations meant to address child development issues.



Dr. Umutoni’s official role began after presenting her Cabinet Letters to the Minister of Foreign Affairs on May 27. Before her appointment in Burkina Faso, she served as UNICEF Representative in the Republic of Congo.
