Bilateral Cooperation Between Burkina Faso and Ghana on Transport Challenges

Accra: The Minister of State, Emile Zerbo, recently met with his Ghanaian counterpart, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, to discuss bilateral cooperation in the transport sector.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the meeting took place during Zerbo’s visit to Accra, where he was warmly welcomed by the Minister of Transport of Ghana.

During their discussions, Zerbo conveyed greetings from Burkina Faso’s Head of State, Captain Ibrahim Traor©, to Ghana’s President, John Dramani Mahama, and the Ghanaian people. The meeting focused on challenges related to the transit of Burkinabe goods through Ghanaian ports, such as the absence of a headquarters agreement for the Burkinabe Shippers’ Council, high demurrage charges, and insufficient rest areas and secure parking for drivers.

The talks also addressed issues like currency fluctuations and constraints in logistics capacity and storage space. In response, Nikpe committed to implementing measures to alleviate some of these challenges and to collaborate closely with the Burkinabe delegation to resolve other issues swiftly.

A joint working group will be formed to examine ongoing difficulties and propose sustainable solutions, benefiting the transport sectors of both countries.
