Nyamira: Regional and County government officers supervising the President’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) development projects have been advised to deploy a synergy of stakeholders’ approach to expedite their completion. Principal Administrative Secretary at the office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Juliana Yiapan, emphasized during her tour of Nyamira County that working in silos impedes the progress of projects intended to benefit citizens.

According to Kenya News Agency, Ms Yiapan highlighted the importance of a multi-agency approach in supervising the BETA projects, which are designed to improve government service delivery to citizens at the village level. She stressed that this approach facilitates the resolution of potential bottlenecks during the construction phase. Furthermore, she emphasized the need for mutual Public Private Partnerships (PPP) to fast-track project implementation, ensuring contractors are closely supervised by the government to achieve value for money.

Ms Yiapa
n cautioned project supervisors against shifting blame or making excuses when projects face delays or when contractors deliver substandard work. She urged them to escalate matters beyond their mandate to regional authorities to resolve issues promptly. The involvement of County and Regional Commissioners is crucial in ensuring smooth project implementation within the stipulated timelines.

Commending the efforts of officers from the Government Delivery Unit (GDS) under the Ministry of Public Service, Ms Yiapan praised their role in monitoring, evaluating, and providing timely reports on the status of BETA projects across the country. These reports have enabled Cabinet Secretaries to have an accurate picture of each project’s status and take necessary actions to ensure completion.

Nyanza Regional Commissioner, Ms Flora Mworoa, confirmed the readiness of County Commissioners to coordinate and mobilize relevant stakeholders to meet the recommended standards of BETA projects. Ms Yiapan assured that the County Ma
nagement Implementation Oversight Committee (CMIOC) in Nyamira County will closely monitor and fast-track all projects to attain 100% completion.

In Nyamira County, BETA projects as part of President William Ruto’s manifesto include upgrading roads in Kitutu Masaba Constituency, constructing a level four hospital in Kitutu Masaba, building a modern market in Borabu Constituency, and establishing an aggregation and industrial park in West Mugirango Constituency. These projects represent a significant investment in the region’s infrastructure and service delivery, aimed at benefiting the citizens of Nyamira County and beyond.
