BBDA Partners with MusicTech GMC to Enhance Fair Rights Distribution Using AI

OUAGADOUGOU — In a significant move to enhance the fair distribution of rights to artists, the Burkinabè Copyright Office (BBDA) has signed an agreement with MusicTech GMC to deploy the G-Music Analytics solution, which leverages artificial intelligence. This collaboration aims to streamline the process of collecting data necessary for equitably distributing artists’ rights based on their works’ merits.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the agreement, which was signed on May 17, marks a potential turning point in addressing the longstanding challenges copyright offices face in collecting accurate data to ensure artists are compensated fairly. G-Music Analytics is designed to automate the retrieval of programs and precisely control data distribution in public spaces. The system features a dynamic dashboard that provides real-time updates on the broadcast of phonograms, facilitating more efficient management and distribution of rights.

Dr. Hamed known as Patindeba Patric Léga, Director General of BBDA, stated that the implementation of this technology fulfills a commitment made earlier in the year to provide BBDA with advanced tools necessary for its mission. This technological advance addresses the difficulties in obtaining program statements from some users, particularly within required deadlines, by offering real-time data access which will simplify the rights distribution process.

The BBDA, established in 1985, is tasked with the protection and collective management of the rights of creators of literary and artistic works and related rights holders, both domestically and internationally.
