Bazèga Witnesses Heritage Celebrations with Historic Mosque and Cave Visits

Bazèga – As Burkina Faso wrapped up its heritage month, the Center-South region’s bodies converged on Kombissiri to explore historical sites, including the old mosque in Nagnimi and the caves of Tandaga. On Saturday, dozens from the region toured these landmarks to mark the closure of a month dedicated to celebrating national heritage.

According to Burkina Information Agency, Massadalo Yvette Nacoulma/Sanou, the visits included the Nagnimi mosque, robust in architecture and recently rehabilitated in December 2023, and the Tandaga caves set amidst a picturesque granite hill. The mosque, built in the 19th century during Naba Poonda’s rule, has been a beacon of spiritual heritage and architecture, accommodating up to 100 people. Tandaga, with its historically significant caves used as shelters during conflicts, also attracted many visitors. The governor emphasized the importance of preserving these sites for future generations and boosting tourism. This year’s heritage month, running from April 18 to May 18, aimed to enhance visitor numbers at various heritage sites and museums across the region.
