Addis Ababa: President Taye Atske Selassie underscored that the battle of Adwa brought hope and victory to Africans and all black people across the globe, restoring the human dignity that the colonialists had tried to destroy. Ethiopia celebrated the 129th anniversary of Adwa victory that continues to symbolize African resistance, unity, and self-determination today.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the day was particularly observed at the Adwa Victory Memorial Museum in Addis Ababa, in the presence of high-ranking government officials and the diplomatic community based in the capital. In his address at the event, President Taye Atske Selassie emphasized that the battle of Adwa brought hope and victory to Africans and all black people globally, reinstating the human dignity that colonialists attempted to obliterate.



The victory is a symbol for Africans and all black people that demonstrated the heroism of Ethiopians, especially highlighting the participation and political wisdom of women, he stressed. The historical background of Adwa emphasizes the power of knowledge and supremacy of ideas, the president underscored.



He urged everyone to ensure that Ethiopia’s greatness is maintained by making efforts to overcome poverty effectively. The president pointed out that the victory at Adwa continues to be demonstrated in the dedication of Ethiopia’s children towards the nation’s unity and progress, encouraging the current generation to achieve comparable successes through hard work.



The Battle of Adwa, which took place 129 years ago, marked a significant triumph for Ethiopians against Italian colonial forces, confirming Ethiopia as the first African nation to successfully resist European colonization.
