Bassi ‘A’ Clinches 2024 Provincial Title in Zondoma’s School Sports and Culture Tournament

Zondoma - Bassi 'A' emerged victorious in the 2024 provincial final of the Organization of Sport and Culture at Primary School (OSCEP), securing the championship after a gripping penalty shootout. The event, organized by the Provincial Directorate of Primary and Non-Formal Preschool Education (DPEPPNF) of Zondoma, concluded on June 29, 2024, in Gourcy.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the final match was held at the Gourcy 'A' school grounds, featuring a showdown between Bassi 'A' of CEB Bassi and Rikiba of CEB Tougo. The intense competition marked the culmination of preliminary rounds across six Basic Education Circumscriptions in Zondoma. The game opened with an early goal from Abdoul Aziz Ouédraogo of Bassi 'A' in the 3rd minute, but was later equalized by another player of the same name from Rikiba's team in the 51st minute. The deadlock continued until the end of regulation time, leading to a decisive penalty shootout where Bassi 'A' outscored Rikiba 6-5.

The victory awarded the CEB of Bassi with a trophy, a cash prize of 50 thousand CFA francs, two sets of jerseys, two footballs, and various school supplies. Karim Sawadogo, the Provincial Director in charge of primary education, attributed the success of the event to the dedication and determination of all educational stakeholders and partners. He expressed gratitude for their unwavering support throughout the competition.

The event also received high praise from the high commissioner of Zondoma province, Aboubacar Sidiki Nabé, who noted the resilience of the educational community despite challenges over the academic year. "I congratulate the provincial director and all of his staff who believed in this project and who carried it out from start to finish," stated Nabé, underscoring the significance of the tournament's return after an eight-year hiatus.

The OSCEP final drew attention from various regional dignitaries, including Jean Marie Ouédraogo, the Regional Director in charge of education, along with numerous administrative and political authorities and guests, all supporting the revitalization of this cultural and sporting event.
