Basketball: Accounts take Cape Verde to the world cup

Luanda – Cape Verde qualified this Sunday for the Asian World Cup, beating Côte d’Ivoire, by 79-64, in a game of the last round of the 5th Window of access to the event, joining Angola, which got the feat Saturday.

The competition, divided into two series (E and F), qualifies the first two selections of each group and the best third classified in the general calculation, being in this last condition that the Cape Verdeans qualify, in addition to Côte d’Ivoire with advance pass guaranteed.

These two Portuguese-speaking countries faced each other Saturday, in the second round of the competition, which takes place at the Kilamba pavilion, in Luanda, with the hosts winning by 80-67.

As for the Group E game, Cape Verde was already leading at half-time, by 42-30.

Ivan Almeida was the top scorer, with 20 points, followed by Diabaté Souleyman, with 12.

The Creoles, who will debut in the World Cup, beat Guinea on Friday, by 78-70, Saturday lost to Angola, by 67-80 and today beat Côte d’Ivoire, by 79-64, totaling 16 points.

Côte d’Ivoire, on the other hand, finished with 18 points, lost to Nigeria, by 72-63, beat Uganda, by 89-44 and lost again today with Cape Verde, by 64-79.

The World Cup takes place in Japan, Indonesia and the Philippines, from 25 August to 10 September this year.
