Basic Education Triumphs in Bougouriba Provincial Police Cup

Ouagadougou: Basic Education wins the 7th edition of the Provincial Director of the National Police Cup: The Basic Education team emerged victorious in the 7th edition of the maracana tournament, known as the "Bougouriba Provincial Director of the National Police Cup," after defeating the Health team 2-0 on Saturday, August 1, at the Jean-Baptiste Ouattara Stadium in Di©bougou. The competition, promoting social cohesion and road safety awareness, concluded in a spirit of fraternity and fair play.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the tournament commenced on July 4, 2026, featuring various teams from public services and the defense and security forces. Over the course of the competition, 19 matches were played, resulting in 26 goals scored leading up to the grand finale.

Following the opening ceremony, which included speeches from officials and the kickoff of the final, a brief rain shower blessed the event. The Basic Education team demonstrated superior performance, clinching a 2-0 victory and securing the trophy for this edition.

As champions, Basic Education received a trophy, a ball, a set of jerseys, gold medals, and a cash prize of 150,000 FCFA. The Health team, as runners-up, were awarded a ball, a set of jerseys, silver medals, and 100,000 FCFA.

The Veterans, finishing third, were presented with sports kits and 75,000 FCFA, while the Gendarmerie, securing fourth place, received sports kits and 50,000 FCFA. Special awards recognized the best player, best goalkeeper, top scorer, and the tournament's most sportsmanlike team.

The competition aimed to enhance ties between local populations, the Defense and Security Forces, and the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, promoting social cohesion and collaborative efforts against insecurity and terrorism. This year's theme emphasized road safety: "Stop road incivility: never ride a motorcycle without my helmet."

Chief Superintendent Rayangn©wendKabr©, the tournament organizer and Provincial Director of the National Police of Bougouriba, thanked partners and sponsors for their support. Newly appointed, he expressed his commitment to upholding the tradition and looked forward to future editions.

Dramane Traor©, the event's patron, acknowledged the honor of supporting such initiatives, emphasizing youth development, sports promotion, and social cohesion. He reiterated his support for efforts that foster community solidarity.

High Commissioner of Bougouriba Province, Amidou Konat©, who presided over the ceremony, praised the relevance of the theme and encouraged fair play among the finalists, highlighting that the victory was for all Bougouriba youth.

The final attracted a significant audience of football fans and notable figures, including the High Commissioner of Noumbiel Province, Drissa Hema, and various regional police and security officials. The event concluded successfully, setting the stage for the 8th edition in 2027.
