Baringo Prepares for Annual Kimalel Trade Fair and Cultural Festival

Baringo: Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi has announced the county's readiness to host the annual trade fair and cultural festival, the Kimalel goat auction, scheduled for December 20 to 22, 2025. Addressing journalists in Kimalel, Marigat Sub County, Cheboi highlighted the expanded activities that will make this year's event unique, extending over three days.

According to Kenya News Agency, the festivities will commence with a 1.5 km wheelchair race and a 2 km race for participants aged 50 and above. These events are designed to celebrate individuals who are differently abled and the elderly, with various prizes awarded. On the same day, the county has organized a water sports competition at Lake Baringo using traditional 'Kaldich' and motorsport, culminating in a youth night extravaganza at the main venue in Kimalel grounds.

On the second day, the program will start with an interdenominational service, followed by a cultural festival and trade fair exhibitions. These exhibitions aim to showcase investment opportunities in Baringo. The festival will conclude with the renowned goat auction, expected to be presided over by President William Ruto. This event encourages leaders, locals, and visitors to support county farmers by purchasing their naturally salted goats for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Governor Cheboi mentioned the integration of physical goat sales with an online platform called E-farmer, catering to those unable to attend the event by allowing them to order goats for home delivery. He emphasized the administration's intent to attract local and foreign tourists to explore the county's unique sceneries and wildlife, with aspirations for recognition as a UNESCO Global Geopark destination.

Cheboi extended an invitation to people from all backgrounds to visit and enjoy the diverse offerings of the county.
