Banwa Women Call for Peace, Healthcare, and Infrastructure Improvements on International Women’s Day


Banwa, Burkina Faso – In commemoration of the 167th International Women’s Day, women in Banwa organized a peaceful march and football match, delivering a letter of grievances to the local authorities with the aim of it being forwarded to President Ibrahim Traoré.



According to Burkina Information Agency, The march, which saw participants dressed in white as a symbol of peace, emphasized the community’s desires for peace, a local hospital, the restoration of electricity, and improved infrastructure, including paved roads and the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their villages. Fatimata Bintou Wibga, the provincial coordinator of Banwa women, highlighted the urgent need for these amenities to support the community’s development and well-being. The day’s events also focused on promoting community entrepreneurship among women, with Wibga encouraging both men and women to support female entrepreneurship as a pathway to economic development. The grievances were formally presented to High Commissioner Oumarou Sandwidi, who assured the women that their concerns would be communicated to the President.
