WINDHOEK: Two suspects implicated in the theft of N.dollars 2 million from Bank Windhoek were denied bail in the Opuwo Magistrate’s Court. Untag Kamati, 34, and Fenni Megameno Ankoshi, 19, are facing charges of conspiracy and theft. They allegedly collaborated with Bank Windhoek employee Nico Rebebe, who is still at large, to commit the crime on January 13.
According to The Namibia Press Agency, The State, represented by Prosecutor Johanna Hamunyela, argued against bail due to the gravity of the charges and ongoing investigations. The suspects were informed of their right to a formal bail application and indicated their intention to seek legal aid representation. The case was adjourned to April 11, 2024, for further investigation. Additionally, six other suspects were arrested in Rundu in connection with the same case. Bank Windhoek has offered a reward for information leading to Rebebe’s arrest and stated that the bank’s losses were minimized due to prompt staff action and robust internal controls.
