Bank Windhoek Expands ATM Network for Namibian Dollar Deposits

Windhoek: Bank Windhoek has enabled cash deposit acceptance for the latest series of Namibian Dollar banknotes at its ATM network. The bank said the change applies to parts of its ATM network across Namibia and allows customers to deposit the N.dollars 200, N.dollars 100, N.dollars 50, N.dollars 20, N.dollars 10, and N.dollars 30 banknotes.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the rollout forms part of preparations to align banking systems with the currency programme led by the Bank of Namibia. Bank Windhoek Chief Operating Officer, Hartwig Rothkegel, in a media statement on Thursday, said the development reflects work to support the currency changes and customer transactions. 'By enabling deposits of the 2025 banknotes, we are supporting the Bank of Namibia's currency programme and allowing customers to deposit these notes through our ATMs. Our systems have been prepared for this change,' he said.

The Bank of Namibia introduced the banknotes and coins in 2025 with security technology, including elements that change colour, security windows, embossing, and features designed for use by touch. Rothkegel said its systems have been adjusted to read and authenticate these features during cash deposits. He also said further work is underway as templates are rolled out to more ATMs. 'Custodians across the network have reported that only notes that fail quality checks are being rejected, which shows improved deposit processing as the rollout continues,' he said.
