Bangladesh Waives Fees for Non-Scheduled Flights Following Airport Fire

Dhaka: All fees for non-scheduled flights at Bangladesh’s main airport have been waived for the next three days following a major fire, an official announced on Sunday. The decision comes in the wake of a significant disruption caused by the fire at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s cargo village.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the devastating fire led to around 21 flights being either diverted or cancelled. Sheikh Bashir Uddin, an adviser to the Bangladeshi Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, confirmed these disruptions and noted the swift actions taken to resume airport operations.

The fire erupted at approximately 2:15 p.m. local time on Saturday, causing immediate chaos and necessitating a prompt response. Officials successfully achieved their goal of resuming airport operations by 9 p.m. local time on the same day.

In the aftermath, authorities are diligently working to assess the total financial losses incurred due to the fire. The temporary waiver of fees for non-scheduled flights aims to mitigate some of the immediate impacts of the incident.
