Bam Traders Host Interfaith Iftar, Fostering Community Unity

Bam, Burkina Faso – In a significant show of interfaith harmony, the Bam traders’ office organized a collective iftar on April 3, 2024, at the Kongoussi town hall, uniting members of the Muslim, Christian, and traditionalist communities.

According to Burkina Information Agency, also known as OA, the elected consular representative of Bam, the initiative was a unanimous decision by the traders to support their Muslim brethren during Ramadan. “This is how, unanimously, we opted for a collective break, hence this evening’s ceremony,” Ouédraogo stated.

The gesture was lauded by Cheick Ousseni Sana, the spokesperson for the Muslims, who underscored the significance of such acts of solidarity during the holy month of fasting. He highlighted the teachings of Prophet Mohamed (PBUH) regarding the virtues of assisting fasting individuals. Sana also appreciated the participation of people from other faiths, citing divine guidance on acceptance and unity.

The event witnessed the attendance of various religious and community leaders, including Father Michel Sawadogo representing the Catholics, Protestant leaders, and the heads of the Zitenga and Datenga cantons, Naaba Tigré. The High Commissioner of Bam, Adama Jean Yves Béré, presided over the ceremony and commended the traders for their role in promoting social cohesion and mutual respect among diverse community members.
