Bam: The president of the special delegation (PDS) of Kongoussi, Abel Dayamba, launched on Monday the 4th edition of the Communal Sanitation Week, scheduled from May 4 to 9, 2026, with the objective of mobilizing the population around urban sanitation and preventing the risks of flooding as the rainy season approaches.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the Municipal Sanitation Week (SCA) in the commune of Kongoussi was initiated in 2023 by the special delegation and aims to sustainably improve the living conditions of the population through concrete sanitation actions. During this week, gutters will be cleaned, piles of garbage removed, and awareness campaigns will be conducted to encourage households to subscribe to sanitation services for regular waste removal.
For Abel Dayamba, president of the special delegation of the Kongoussi municipality, the issue of sanitation concerns all citizens. "Hygiene is not solely the responsibility of the town hall. It must begin in the private sphere and be observed in households," he insisted. The activity is experiencing strong participation from volunteers of the Presidential Initiative for Community Development.
The patron of the ceremony, El Hadj Mahamadi Sawadogo, known as Gondaweogo, welcomed the organization of such an activity by the special delegation, which he praised as a structuring action for the municipality. The highlight of this week will be the awards ceremony for the best actors who have distinguished themselves in promoting hygiene and sanitation.
It is worth recalling that the SCA coincides with the start of work to build 6 km of drainage ditches and rehabilitate 9.2 km of tracks in the municipality, thanks to the support of the Community Project for Recovery and Stabilization of the Sahel (PCRSS).
