Balé Children Showcase New Skills at Sports and Culture Holiday Camp Closing

BOROMO — The sixth edition of the sports and culture holiday camp, hosted by the provincial directorate of culture and the provincial directorate of sports and leisure of Balé, concluded on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in Boromo. The closing ceremony was presided over by Asseta Kouanda, the secretary general of Balé province, attended by the parents of the participants.



According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial director in charge of culture, the camp, which began on July 1 under the theme ‘Children and eco-citizenship’, successfully engaged 106 children aged between 4 to 16 years. The children participated in a broad array of activities designed to educate and entertain, ranging from sports to environmental stewardship, echoing the camp’s objective to foster a sense of eco-citizenship among its young attendees.



The camp provided comprehensive training in football, handball, plastic arts, culinary arts, and music and dance, with instruction given by professional supervisors from the provincial sports and leisure department and local cultural figures. Highlights included making natural juices, cooking local dishes, and crafting giant puppets. Additionally, the children participated in tourist excursions to significant local sites and were introduced to traditional musical instruments like the Djembé and Balafon.



The closing ceremony featured performances where children demonstrated their newly acquired skills and talents, delighting their parents with a variety of artistic and sports productions. A new addition this year was a fair that offered a range of age-appropriate games, providing a day of entertainment and enjoyment for the campers.



Asseta Kouanda applauded the initiative for significantly contributing to the developmental and educational needs of the children in Balé, acknowledging the support and trust of the parents and the dedication of all involved in organizing the camp.
