Balé: Members of the general assembly of the local water committee (CLE) Balé 7 were sensitized on integrated water resources management and climate change, during the official taking-over ceremony of the facilitator of the CLE Balé 7, Yerison Kanko, in Boromo. The event, held in the presence of the heads of the Mouhoun water agency and the NGO WaterAid, marked a significant step in addressing water management challenges in the region.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the CLE president, Ibrahim Boly, highlighted that the new facilitator, Ms. Kanko, was recruited as part of the “BASIN” project, a collaboration between WaterAid and the Mouhoun water agency. The recruitment process was conducted through a private firm. Ms. Kanko expressed her enthusiasm and commitment to effectively implement her skills in advancing the committee’s objectives.

The ceremony included the delivery of office equipment and rolling stock, donated by WaterAid, to support the facilitator in monitoring the BASIN project. A pane
l discussion on integrated water resources management and climate change featured presentations by Ibrahim Aka from the Mouhoun water agency and Djibril Barry, a project manager at WaterAid. The discussions underscored the urgent need for positive actions to protect water resources in the Boucle du Mouhoun region and beyond.

CLE president Ibrahim Boly condemned the actions of individuals transporting toxic products across the Mouhoun River, likening their impact to terrorism due to the threats posed to public health and safety. He urged assembly members to actively promote good practices and disseminate crucial information in their communities.

Eric Mamboué, WaterAid’s country director, praised the CLE members for their active participation and highlighted the importance of addressing climate change and water management issues. He reaffirmed WaterAid’s commitment to supporting the Mouhoun water agency and shared insights on the panel’s theme, emphasizing the BASIN project’s role in fostering community resil
ience.

The Balé 7 local committee, established in 2024, includes administrative authorities, technical services, and socio-professional stakeholders from the Balé province and the communes of Pouni and Zawara. It operates under the Mouhoun water agency’s oversight, aiming to ensure sustainable water resource management for present and future generations.
