Baku Readies for Thrilling 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix

BAKU—The Azerbaijan Grand Prix is set to electrify Baku with high-speed Formula 1 racing from September 13 to 15, marking its eighth annual occurrence in Azerbaijan’s capital.

According to Namibia Press Agency, as the fourth race of the Formula 1 season, which features 24 races in total, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is anticipated to be a highlight of the year. The 2024 season has seen significant calendar revisions designed to enhance logistics, including the rescheduling of the Japanese Grand Prix to April and the move of the Azerbaijan event to September. These adjustments are part of a larger strategy aimed at improving race management efficiency and easing operational demands on participating teams.

Competing on Baku’s notorious city circuit—known for its extreme speeds and technical challenges—will be ten teams and 20 drivers. The track, extending over six kilometers, includes long straights where speeds can soar up to 370 km/h, making it one of the fastest and most demanding circuits in the sport. This race is especially critical as teams push to accumulate crucial points in the latter part of the season.

This year’s Grand Prix has sparked unprecedented interest, with tickets selling out well ahead of the event. To accommodate the growing demand, race organizers have expanded the number of grandstands from eight to ten, increasing the total capacity by 35% over the previous year.
