Katutura: The Katutura Magistrate’s Court has granted bail in the amount of N.dollars 5,000 to the 66-year-old man who was arrested after he allegedly made a bomb threat at the Hosea Kutako International Airport. The accused, Christo Bessinger, reportedly uttered the words, “There could be a bomb on the aircraft for all we know,” while he was a passenger on a flight departing for Cape Town, South Africa, on Tuesday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Bessinger’s comment led to a swift response from the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) and the Namibian Police Force bomb squad, who investigated the situation thoroughly. NAC spokesperson Dan Kamati confirmed that following the immediate actions by stakeholders, the flight was cleared, and the airport resumed normal operations.

Bessinger is scheduled to return to court on 11 March 2025. He faces charges for contravening the Civil Aviation Act 6 of 2016.
