NAROK: A tragic accident on the Narok-Maai Mahiu road claimed the life of a one-year-old child and left 14 passengers seriously injured when a truck collided with a matatu at the Pinyinyi black spot. The matatu, belonging to Alicia Sacco, was carrying 15 passengers at the time of the crash.
According to Kenya News Agency, Narok Traffic Commander Felix Muli reported that the accident occurred when an Isuzu FRR lorry, driven by Patrick Mbatia, failed to maintain a safe distance and struck the matatu from behind. The impact caused the matatu to veer off the road and roll multiple times. The driver of the matatu has not yet been identified.
The injured passengers were transported to Narok County Referral Hospital for medical treatment, while the deceased child’s body was taken to the hospital’s mortuary. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been towed to the Ntulele police station for inspection and further investigation.
This incident follows another fatal accident just a day prior, where three people
died and three were injured on the Ololulunga-Olmekenyu road. The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) reports that approximately 3,000 people die in road accidents annually, with many occurring on weekends, during festivals, and on public holidays.
