Baba Village Festival 2025 Kicks Off in Ouagadougou with Focus on Tradition

Kadiogo: The 2025 edition of the Baba Village festival was launched with the aim of preserving traditions. The Baba Village festival opened Thursday in Ouagadougou, with successive performances by artistic troupes showcasing the rich cultural heritage of Burkina Faso. The event also aims to transmit traditional values to the younger generation.

According to Burkina Information Agency, the opening ceremony brought together holders of traditional knowledge, customary chiefs and young people, who came to support this cultural initiative. Artist Floby, promoter of the festival, reminded everyone that several activities will mark the three days of festivities, including culinary arts training and performances by artists. ‘We are placing this festival under the banner of the culture that we must preserve. Baba Village is the village transported to the city,’ he said.

The godmother of this 8th edition, Adja Amsetou Nikiema from Komsilga, welcomed the initiative and indicated that she accepted this role because of her attachment to traditional practices. Dr. Jean Noel Bonkoungou, representing the Minister in charge of Communication, who is also the head of the event, stressed that Baba Village is now “a major event bringing together young people, women, men and artists around culture and conviviality”.

“We celebrate the identity, creativity and richness of Burkinabe culture, as well as the spirit of living together that has characterized Baba Village since its creation,” he added. According to him, cultural values constitute a “real force” to support and consolidate development, particularly through the concerts, exhibitions, activities and creative spaces offered by the festival.

Baba Village’s activities continue until November 23rd at the Leopards de Saint Camille grounds in Ouagadougou.
