Boromo: Aziz Boly and Marie Aude Sabou© emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s categories respectively at the 2nd edition of the Boromo Half Marathon, held on a scenic 21 km course between Petit Bal© and Boromo. The event took place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, with a vibrant public presence along the route.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the competition saw Aziz Boly clinch the ‘Sama d’or’ prize after overtaking Inoussa Niki¨ma in the final 500 meters, finishing the race in 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 57 seconds. In the women’s category, Marie Aude Sabou© showcased her prowess, finishing with a time of 1 hour, 33 minutes, and 50 seconds, placing 13th overall. This victory marks her second consecutive win in the women’s category.
Local runner Ibrahim Konat©, known as the Moroccan, was the fastest from Bale province, completing the course in 1 hour, 29 minutes, and 21 seconds, securing the 10th spot overall. The organizing committee reported that 65 professional and amateur runners participated, including members from AS Police, USFA, and national athletics champions.
The Boromo City Half Marathon introduced notable changes this year, including new prize categories and enhanced security measures. The winners received 200,000 CFA francs each, while the top five finishers in both categories were recognized with awards. Special prizes were also given to the best runners from the defense and security forces and the oldest participant.
The event was supported by prominent local figures, with the High Commissioner of Bale Province, Martin Bako, and Esae Bamogo, President of the Boromo Special Delegation, overseeing proceedings. The marathon emphasized “Sport, a factor of social cohesion” as its theme.
Despite budgetary challenges, the Anvikultur association, which promoted the event, expressed satisfaction with the marathon’s success and appealed for more partners to sustain this significant regional sporting event.
