Baku: Angola’s ambassador to Kenya, Sianga Abílio, on Wednesday in Baku, Azerbaijan, highlighted the efforts of the Angolan government for the energy transition and reduction of greenhouse gases. Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the COP29 High-Level Summit, the diplomat highlighted the implementation of photovoltaic parks in the country, which contributes to the reduction of fossil energy consumption. ‘These efforts are a signal for other countries to also follow the same path, in order to reduce global warming to 1.5 degrees,’ he stressed.
According to Angola Press News Agency, Sianga Abílio stated that Angola is a vulnerable country in terms of climate and climate change, particularly in the southern regions that are affected by desertification and floods. He mentioned that in recent years, the Angolan authorities have developed capacities to combat deforestation and safeguard wildlife, while finding solutions for forest management.
Abílio further noted that Angola can benefit from Kenya’s experi
ence in the agriculture sector and tourism industry, both of which contribute significantly to its Gross Domestic Product (GDP). He highlighted the economic similarities between Kenya and Angola, noting that both countries have a GDP of approximately US$110 billion. ‘Therefore, we have some points of convergence to be able to cooperate,’ concluded the Angolan diplomat.
