Authorities Seize 749 Bags of Adulterated Fertilizer in Huambo

Huambo: Security forces in Huambo province have seized 749 bags of 50-kilogram adulterated fertilizer from an informal market in Quissala, located on the outskirts of the provincial capital. According to Angola Press News Agency, the fertilizer, which included NPK 12-24-12 compound fertilizer and granulated ammonium sulfate, was discovered inside a warehouse during a joint operation by security and internal order agencies. Chief Superintendent of Criminal Investigation Pedro Agostinho, head of the local Department for Combat against Economic Crime and Public Health, informed the press that the authorities acted on a complaint regarding individuals involved in adulterating products. The complaint suggested that the accused were substituting lower-quality products into bags labeled as higher-quality products favored by farmers and agricultural workers, aiming for easy profit. The chief p olice officer disclosed that the operation revealed several products fraudulently repackaged into 50 kg bags on the warehouse floor. Agostinho confirmed that all the materials were seized and those involved are currently under investigation by the Public Prosecutor's Office. Agostinho noted that the fertilizer belonged to multiple individuals and that purchase invoices will be scrutinized to determine the duration of the adulteration scheme aimed at misleading buyers. He advised farmers to purchase fertilizers from licensed and reputable sources and to verify products at the point of purchase, ensuring they receive a receipt for potential complaints. He also stated that the warehouse will remain closed pending further instructions from the Public Prosecutor's Office.
