Ouagadougou: The August 4th Stadium will be available next June, as confirmed by the Minister of Sports, Roland Somda, who visited the sports infrastructure standardization project with the press. Somda expressed satisfaction with the progress of the work completed so far.
According to Burkina Information Agency, Roland Somda was joined by Mikalou Sidib©, Minister of Urban Planning and Housing, and the President of the Burkinabe Football Federation during the visit. Somda emphasized that the June 2025 deadline is a non-negotiable commitment for the completion of the stadium.
Rehabilitation work on the August 4th stadium, which was halted in 2021, resumed intensively from January 25. The company handling the project reported that 80% of the work has been completed within 50% of the allocated time. Daouda Dian©, a hydraulic engineer overseeing the pitch study and irrigation system, noted that the project resumed following a diagnosis with the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Dian© highlighted the resumption and completion of the majority of the structural work, including lighting, tiling, painting, and decorations. He explained that the stadium's inaugural match is expected in September, allowing time for the turf to properly establish.
Dian© further elaborated that although the stadium will be ready by June, the pitch requires an additional three months to ensure it can endure game stresses. He detailed the careful selection of turf type suited to the Sahelian climate, emphasizing the need for diligent maintenance to prevent it from turning yellow and to promote healthy growth.
