AU Calls for Greater Commitment to Women’s Rights

Luanda: The African Union (AU)'s Special Envoy for Women, Peace, and Security, Liberata Mulamula, called on Friday (10) in Luanda for a greater commitment to the promotion and protection of women's rights. The diplomat was speaking at the closing ceremony of the 2nd International Women's Forum, held under the theme "Peace is Stronger When Women Lead," where she highlighted the importance of female leadership across different sectors of society.

According to Angola Press News Agency, respect, responsibility, and commitment to women's rights constitute essential elements for building fairer and more inclusive societies. The AU representative underlined that the effective participation of women in leadership processes is indispensable for progress and the consolidation of peace in Africa.

The forum brought together members of the Angolan Executive, representatives from the African Union, international organizations, religious institutions, and other civil society entities to address the role of women in promoting peace and security. Participants also addressed mechanisms aimed at reducing the vulnerability of women affected by forced displacement in conflict zones, as well as strategies to strengthen their economic and social inclusion.

Organized by the Angola Government, in partnership with the Office of the Special Envoy of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission on Women, Peace, and Security, the forum forms part of the preparations for the 4th Edition of the Luanda Biennale.
