Limpopo: At least 40 people, including seven children, lost their lives in a tragic bus accident in South Africa’s Limpopo Province on Sunday evening. The country’s Road Traffic Management Corporation confirmed the incident on Monday.
According to Namibia Press Agency, preliminary reports indicated that the bus veered off the road along a steep mountain pass and subsequently rolled down an embankment. The victims were identified as Zimbabwean and Malawian nationals traveling from the Eastern Cape Province to their homelands.
Limpopo Provincial Premier Phophi Ramathuba expressed sorrow over the incident, saying, “This is a heartbreaking tragedy. On behalf of the Limpopo Provincial government, we extend our deepest condolences to the affected families, including those in Zimbabwe and Malawi. We wish a full and speedy recovery to all survivors.”
The injured were transported to hospitals for treatment. The Limpopo provincial government is also providing psychosocial services to support the survivors during this difficult time.
