Nahouri: The twelfth edition of the Maracana tournament for young people under 15 in Pô concluded with a thrilling finale as AS Elite emerged victorious against Sector No. 5, clinching the trophy with a close score of 3 goals to 2. The tournament, held under the theme "Youth football, an effective ally to promote resilience," wrapped up its activities on the field of Sector No. 5, marking the end of two months of spirited competition among 16 teams from the municipality of Pô. According to Burkina Information Agency, Rémi Tenkodogo, the promoter and president of the sports association for development and solidarity, and president of the Pô football club academy, stated that the tournament's primary aim was to foster social cohesion, encouraging each Burkinabe to contribute to peace in Burkina Faso. The event also sought to identify and recruit top young football talents to integrate them into the Pô football club academy, instilling in them the values of patriotism. Bouriema Balima, Secretary General of the Burkina Football Federation and sponsor of the edition, commended the organizing committee for successfully holding the tournament, which honored Potani Bilgo, affectionately known as "morihino," the original promoter of this event who passed away in February 2022. The final match, decided by penalties, saw AS Elite securing the championship by narrowly defeating the team from Sector No. 5 with a scoreline of 3-2. AS Elite was awarded a trophy, a cash prize of 100,000 CFA francs, a ball, and a set of jerseys and medals. Meanwhile, the runners-up, Sector No. 5, received 75,000 CFA francs, a ball, and a set of jerseys and medals. The tournament also recognized the third and fourth-placed teams with cash and kind rewards. The event began with the national anthem and a song celebrating the victory of the fighting forces over evil, setting a patriotic tone. Additionally, organizers donated 10 bags of 50 kg corn, 10 cartons of soap, and 2 bags of Omo soap to the high commissioner of the province of Nahouri for the benefit of internally displaced persons (IDPs).
