Nakambe: The Energy Sector Regulatory Authority (ARSE) is conducting a comprehensive workshop from October 28 to 30, 2025, in Tenkodogo. This event targets journalists from the Nakambe, Nazinon, Goulmou, Sirba, and Tapoa regions, aiming to bolster their understanding of ARSE's role in the governance and development of Burkina Faso's energy sector.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the opening ceremony was overseen by the Secretary General of the Regional Council, Emile Yameogo, who represented the Governor of the Nakambe region. The ceremony gathered institutional leaders, media representatives, and energy sector stakeholders. Justin Malka, First Vice President of the Tenkodogo Special Municipal Delegation, expressed his gratitude for choosing Tenkodogo, referring to it as the "City of Naaba Zoungrana," as the workshop venue.
Malka highlighted the municipality's enthusiasm for hosting an initiative focused on enhancing transparency and governance in the strategic energy sector. In his address, ARSE President Dr. Jean-Baptiste KY emphasized the institution's mission under Law No. 014-2017/AN, which includes protecting public energy service users, setting fair tariffs, and maintaining sector financial balance.
Dr. KY noted ARSE's commitment to transparency and national development, underscoring the media's pivotal role in disseminating accurate and useful information to the public. Over three days, participants will engage in presentations covering the foundations and practices of energy sector regulation, addressing legal, economic, pricing, and technical aspects.
Saidou Zorome, Director of Communications and Press Relations at ARSE, explained that the workshop aligns with ARSE's 2025-2027 Strategic Development Plan. This plan emphasizes enhancing visibility and dialogue with local media to better inform the public about ARSE's contributions.
The workshop will also review ARSE's 2024 activity report, which was submitted to the Prime Minister. This report outlines achievements in legal, economic, and technical regulation and efforts to improve public service quality.
The Governor's representative praised the workshop as a model for transparency and citizen participation. He underscored energy regulation's role in balancing consumer needs, operator viability, and sector sustainability, noting the government's commitment to equitable energy access under Captain Ibrahim Traore's leadership.
In his closing remarks, the Governor's representative expressed gratitude to ARSE and participants, hoping the workshop would enhance collaboration between ARSE and the media for better dissemination of energy information in Burkina Faso.
The workshop was seen as a step towards making energy regulation a driver of trust, transparency, and sustainable development in the country.
