Arrests in Kayao: Police Dismantle 17 Million FCFA Fraud Network Promising Magical Wealth Multiplication

KAYAO, BAZÈGA – Elements of the police station in the commune of Kayao in Bazèga province apprehended four individuals on charges of fraud. According to investigators, the suspects allegedly defrauded their victims of more than 17,000,000 CFA francs by promising bags that could magically multiply banknotes.

According to Burkina Information Agency, The operation unfolded on July 16, 2024, following multiple complaints from victims to the Kayao police. The suspects, described as ‘charlatans,’ allegedly enticed people with the promise of easy wealth. According to our sources, the alleged fraudsters conducted rituals involving the immolation of an ox, after which they provided customers with magic bags containing undisclosed objects. Clients were instructed not to open these bags until they supposedly generated money over a set period.

Investigators detailed that during the scam’s three-month duration, each customer participated in the ritual, subsequently handing over money to be “multiplied.” The suspects kept the bags, scheduling follow-up appointments with their clients. However, before these meetings, the alleged perpetrators would create excuses to avoid returning the money, leaving the clients without any of the promised funds.

The arrest led to the dismantling of the fraudulent network, and the suspects were transferred to the Ouaga 2 High Court to face charges related to the scam.
