KEETMANSHOOP: A 41-year-old man has been arrested and is scheduled to appear in court in Bethanie for the alleged rape of a 38-year-old woman. The arrest follows an incident that took place in the Riverside residential area of the village.
According to Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA), Deputy Commissioner Nikodemus Mbango, the Namibian Police Force crime investigations coordinator for the ||Kharas Region, provided details in a crime incident report to Nampa on Sunday. According to the report, the alleged rape occurred between Friday night around 22h00 and Saturday morning around 09h00. Mbango stated that the suspect is accused of assaulting the victim, forcibly dragging her to his residence, and sexually assaulting her multiple times without consent. The report further mentioned that while the victim and the suspect had been in a romantic relationship, they had since separated. The suspect claims that they are still in a relationship and asserts that the sexual intercourse was consensual.
In a separate incident in Keetmanshoop, police are still seeking a suspect in another alleged rape case involving a 25-year-old woman. It is alleged that the suspect and the victim were at the suspect’s house, and when the victim attempted to leave, the suspect locked the room, dragged her onto his bed, and sexually assaulted her against her will. This incident reportedly occurred on Wednesday around 00h15 in the Tseiblaagte residential area of the town.
The police are continuing their investigations into both matters.
