Aris River Bridge Officially Inaugurated, Restoring Key Transport Link

Windhoek: Minister of Works and Transport, Veikko Nekundi, officially inaugurated the newly constructed Aris River Bridge, reinstating a crucial transportation link between Windhoek and Rehoboth. This vital connection had been disrupted last year due to severe structural damage inflicted by heavy rainfall.

According to Namibia Press Agency, Nekundi announced in a media statement that the construction contract for the new bridge was awarded to China Railway Seventh Group (Pty) Ltd, with a total project cost of N.dollars 33.92 million. He emphasized the strategic investment in bypass solutions, highlighting their role in safeguarding the economy, maintaining supply chains, and respecting the needs of road users reliant on this corridor.

The bridge has been designed as a key element of the anticipated upgrade of Trunk Road 1/5 to a dual carriageway, ensuring its integration into future infrastructure developments. Nekundi underscored the importance of this design for long-term resilience and alignment with Namibia’s road infrastructure objectives.

Nekundi expressed gratitude to the Roads Fund Administration, China Railway Seventh Group, Lithon Project Consultants, and the communities of Aris and Rehoboth for their patience during the construction period. He remarked on the significance of infrastructure projects in uniting the nation and increasing opportunities.

Martins Kambulu, Board Chairperson of the Roads Authority, praised the project’s swift completion as a testament to effective leadership and collaboration between public and private sectors. He reaffirmed the Roads Authority’s dedication to investing in durable infrastructure that supports Namibia’s national development and enhances the quality of life for all citizens.
