Bomet: APS Bomet took a decisive step towards National Super League (NSL) promotion with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Nzoia Sugar in a thrilling match played at the Bomet Green Stadium on Sunday. The hosts came out determined and wasted no time in getting ahead. Cedric Asango opened the scoring in the 17th minute after calmly converting a penalty, sending the home fans into early celebration.
According to Kenya News Agency, the momentum continued, and in the 41st minute, Kipkemoi Ballo added a second with a composed finish, giving APS a comfortable lead at halftime. Nzoia Sugar mounted a late comeback and managed to score in the 83rd minute, but APS Bomet held on with grit and discipline to secure a vital three points.
With this win, APS now sits second on the NSL table with 61 points, trailing only Nairobi United, which leads with 69. Fortune Sacco follows closely in third place with 57 points. APS Bomet has just two fixtures left in the season: an away match against MCF on Saturday, June 15, and a final home showdown against Assad FC. A win in both matches could seal their long-awaited promotion to the top flight FKF-KPL.
APS team Coordinator Evans Mafuta praised the players’ resilience and called on fans to continue backing the team in the final stretch. ‘This win means everything to us. The boys gave their all, and we’re proud of how they’ve carried the badge. I want to sincerely thank our supporters; your energy at the stadium makes a huge difference. We need you more than ever as we push for NSL promotion,’ Mafuta said.
He added that the home crowd’s presence and belief played a crucial role in maintaining their unbeaten run at home this season. ‘Our fans are our 12th man, literally speaking. Let’s fill the stands once more when we face Assad FC. Together, we can make history by being the first team in the whole South Rift to join NSL,’ Mafuta emphasised.
APS Bomet’s performance this season has reignited football excitement in the region, and with just two matches left, all eyes will be on the team as they aim to finish strong and make their mark on the national stage.
