The Department of Children Services in Kisumu County has sent out an appeal to help identify the parents of a 17-year-old girl who was rescued by well-wishers in the area.

Identified as Joyle Luka, the girl who is deaf is being housed at the Kisumu Children’s Rescue Centre, with efforts to trace her parents proving futile.

According to Kisumu West Children’s Officer Bilha Onyango, the minor only communicates in Khisa and Kabras Luhya dialects, further complicating efforts to reunite her with the family.

Onyango said the department has distributed photographs of the girl to help locate her parents, but no response has been received so far.

She urged members of the public who could have any information that could help trace the girl’s family to visit the children’s office.

The incident brings into focus the rising number of child disappearances in the area, with the department struggling to locate their families.
