APP to Focus on Agriculture, Education, and Land in Upcoming Elections

WINDHOEK — The All People’s Party (APP) has outlined education, agriculture, and land issues as its key priorities ahead of the general elections scheduled for 27 November 2024.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the party’s president, Ambrosius Kumbwa, announced during a press briefing in Windhoek that the APP is preparing to unveil its election manifesto on 05 October in Rundu. Kumbwa emphasized that the manifesto would advocate for policies like free education, boosting local food production, and enhancing the governance capabilities of traditional authorities over communal lands.

Kumbwa, who also serves on the Divundu Village Council, highlighted significant challenges within the agricultural and educational sectors. He criticized the current agricultural productivity, pointing out the potential of vast lands in regions like Zambezi, Kavango East, and West, which are underutilized for food production. He illustrated the issues in the education system by citing the high teacher-student ratios that severely impact the quality of education, especially in his region of Kavango East.

Furthermore, Kumbwa addressed the disenfranchisement of traditional authorities in managing communal lands, arguing that despite legal provisions, these leaders lack real power to govern their lands effectively.

In related developments, the APP has recently refreshed its leadership following its fourth national congress last month in Rundu. The party finalized a parliamentary candidate list featuring 50 members from all 14 regions of Namibia, balanced with 30 males and 20 females, aiming for diverse representation.
