Lusaka: Dr. Ant³nio Agostinho Neto International Airport (AIAAN) was honored on Wednesday in Lusaka, Zambia, with the "Environment and Sustainable Development/2025" award, an initiative of the Airports Council International for Africa (ACI Africa). The award ceremony in the "Emerging Green Airport Pioneer" category took place on the sidelines of the 34th Annual General Assembly of ACI Africa, taking place on September 13 to 19 in Zambia, bringing together airport managers and experts.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the award recognizes the African airports that stand out in environmental management and in promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the United Nations. The award also encourages the reduction of the environmental impacts of airport operations and the implementation of excellent sustainability practices.
The document highlights that with this international recognition, the AIAAN has achieved a significant level of recognition. The airport reaffirms its commitment to environmental protection, reinforcing its focus on more efficient and sustainable operational processes, aligned with global best practices in the civil aviation sector.
The award for this airport infrastructure coincides with National Hero's Day, the birthday of Ant³nio Agostinho Neto, patron of AIAAN and the first President of Angola.
