Shanghai: The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas and Biofuels (ANPG), along with Azule Energy and partners from Block 15/06, including Sonangol Exploration and Production, Sinopec, and NAMCOR, inaugurated the Agogo Floating Production Storage and Offloading Unit (FPSO) in Shanghai, China. This significant event marks a milestone in the West Hub Agogo Integrated Development Project, focusing on advancing the Agogo and Ndungu fields to enhance production in Block 15/06.
According to Angola Press News Agency, the project aims to bolster the national economy, advance Angolan technical training, and strengthen the local value chain, aligning with the government's socio-economic development priorities. The Agogo FPSO is designed as a 'green' unit, targeting emissions of up to 10 kg CO2/boe over its lifetime. The design features include a closed flare system, gas recovery units, waste heat recovery, and a combined cycle gas turbine for power generation.
Angola's Secretary of State for Oil and Gas, Jos© Barroso, highlighted the project's strategic importance, emphasizing partnerships that focus on technology transfer, local content development, and environmental management. He noted that critical components of the project were manufactured in Angolan shipyards, underscoring the commitment to strengthening local industry and promoting self-sufficiency.
ANPG CEO Paulino Jer³nimo shared that local fabrication and construction activities at the SONAMET shipyard in Lobito, Angola, resulted in approximately 600,000 man-hours and more than 1,900 tons of fabrication. The Agogo project is expected to generate over 1,600 direct jobs in Angola and over five million man-hours during the EPCI phase from 2023 to 2025.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by members of the Angolan diplomatic corps in China, ANPG Executive Administrator Ana Miala, Block 15/06 partners, Azule Energy shareholders, and contractors. The initiative underscores the multinational cooperation in supporting the sector's development, adhering to the guidelines of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas for industry development and energy transition.
The FPSO Agogo is notable for its integration of low-carbon solutions, positioning Angola as a leader in sustainable energy projects. The unit is slated to be operational by the end of 2025, six months ahead of the Final Investment Decision (FID).
