Greece continues to stand in solidarity with the Turkish people, who are suffering from the devastating earthquakes, and responds to the Turkish authorities’ request for humanitarian assistance.

The ship M/V Neptune Okeanis is expected to sail today, Wednesday 15 February 2023, from the port of Piraeus (Car Terminal – G2) to the port of Iskenderun carrying humanitarian aid to Turkey. The humanitarian supplies are part of the assistance provided by Greek citizens and collected by Greek Municipalities, Regions, and agencies. In particular, four trucks are carrying 250 cubic meters of necessities such as blankets, bedding, heaters, personal hygiene items and medicines, which the Turkish authorities have requested in priority. The ship for the transport of the humanitarian aid to Turkey is offered pro bono by the company Neptune Lines Shipping & Managing Enterprises, owned by Melina Travlos. It should be noted that the ship will modify its planned course in order to enter the port of Iskenderun.

As is well known, Greece responded immediately to Turkey’s request for assistance, as from the very first moment Greek rescuers traveled to the affected areas, while Greece’s support for the suffering people of Turkey was also demonstrated by Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Dendias’ recent visit.  Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andreas Katsaniotis. is in charge of coordinating all actions related to the organisation, collection, and dispatch of humanitarian aid.
