Nayala: The secretary general of the province of Nayala, representing the High Commissioner, handed over on Friday in Toma in the premises of the provincial service of livestock, sheep, goats, pigs, and poultry to 64 internally displaced persons (IDPs) returned.
According to Burkina Information Agency, the provincial director of agriculture, animal and fisheries resources of Nayala, Aristide Zonou, stated that this operation is part of the Livestock Recovery and Consolidation Project (PRECEL), which has identified vulnerable households to support them with production hubs. "During the crisis, many lost their livestock, which was their main source of income. PRECEL wanted to support them in reconstituting this capital," he explained.
A total of 64 people, including 27 women and 37 men, benefited from this support. Each beneficiary of sheep and goats received four bags of feed, while pig keepers received five bags. The animals handed over were treated, dewormed, and vitaminized. Batches of veterinary medicines have also been provided to ensure continuity of care.
The provincial director assured that if the animals are well cared for, the first benefits can be obtained within three to six months. He also guaranteed careful control of the quality of the poultry supplied, from a local market with the Provincial Union of Poultry Farmers.
Secretary General Adama Diallo, representative, expressed appreciation for the PRECEL initiative, stating, "The state cannot do everything. If we have partners who support us, we must receive these donations carefully and use them to strengthen agro-pastoral productivity." Mr. Diallo urged the beneficiaries to contribute to the national dynamic of food sovereignty.
Beneficiaries expressed their gratitude. Ki Pierre, VDP and resident of sector n°8 of Toma, requested more support, emphasizing that such initiatives contribute to the country's development. Edith Bougnian Sow, from the village of Biba, who received three sows and a pig, promised to build a pigsty without delay, thanking PRECEL for a gesture that will help her become more independent.
Authorities hope that after six months, the results will be visible in beneficiary households, allowing individual economic recovery and the consolidation of self-sufficiency at the local and national levels.
