Angola’s World Cup Hopes Dented by Home Defeat to Cape Verde

Luanda: Angola's chances of qualifying for next year's World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico are in doubt after they lost 2-1 at home to Cape Verde on Tuesday. The defeat has complicated Angola's position in the qualifying rounds and left their fans in distress.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the match took place at the 11 de Novembro stadium in Luanda, where thousands of fans watched as Angola conceded two goals, both scored by Rocha Livramento at the 45+2 and 63-minute marks. Although Angola managed to pull one back in the 53rd minute through Gelson Dala, who capitalized on a direct free-kick from captain Fredy, it was not enough to secure a win.

The national team's performance was notably poor across all areas. Kialunda Gaspar and David Carmo struggled to fulfill their roles as central midfielders, often leaving gaps for the opposition, while forwards Mabululu and Gelson Dala were unable to find their form in attack.

In an attempt to change the course of the game, coach Pedro Gon§alves introduced substitutes Milson, debutant Andr© Vidigal, and Ossi. They replaced Mabululu, Benson, and Clinton Mata, respectively, but the changes failed to impact the team's attacking capabilities.

The victory propelled Cape Verde to the top of Group D with 13 points, further complicating Angola's path to the World Cup.
