Angola’s Foreign Minister Participates in G20 Meeting in Johannesburg

Johannesburg: The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Angola, T©te Ant³nio, participated on Thursday in the first meeting of the G20 Foreign Ministers in Johannesburg. The meeting aims to address global issues and establish priorities for the current year, with discussions focusing on key global and regional challenges.

According to Angola Press News Agency, the G20 group comprises the world’s largest economies, alongside the African Union and the European Union. T©te Ant³nio is attending the meeting as the chairman of the Executive Council of the African Union, representing the African delegation.

The event is taking place at the Sandton Conference Centre in Johannesburg, with the theme “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability”. It gathers heads of diplomatic missions from the G20 group and leaders from regional and international organizations. Cyril Ramaphosa, the South African Head of State, delivered the opening speech, emphasizing the importance of addressing climate issues, conflict resolution, geopolitical tensions, and growing global challenges such as pandemics, energy crises, and food insecurity.

The Angolan Minister expressed his satisfaction in leading the African delegation at this significant meeting, following the successful conclusion of the 38th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the AU, during which Angola assumed the presidency of the continental organization. The G20 meeting under South Africa’s presidency occurs amid increasing regional tensions in the east of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
